Car Donation Requirements
Donating Your Car To Charity
The requirements for car donation will generally depend on the specific charity you choose to donate your car to. Generally speaking the requirements for car donation are usually simply:
-
Your vehicle must be whole (no missing engines, trunks, etc.).
-
The vehicle need not run but you will be asked to explain the condition of the vehicle.
-
Your vehicle must have a clear title in your name, if required by your home state. Visit the charities page, choose one, and click donate to start a title check and see if your state requires a title.
When you contact a car donation charity they will ask you to provide the following information:
- The year, make and model of your vehicle
- The general condition of your vehicle and approximate mileage
- The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). This is a 17 digit number usually found on your registration, title and/or insurance policy. It usually can also be located at the base of the windshield on the left-hand side.
Car donation is fast and easy and an amazing way to make a difference in someone's life. Donating your car is also a win-win situation for you. When you donate your car, truck, boat or RV the government provides you a tax break.
Before making a car donation, make sure that the organization is qualified, that you speak directly to the charity, and that you examine state filings for more information as there are many car donation scams out there.
